Introduction

The Model Viewer OBJ Output command allows users to output their entire 3d model (everything currently displayed in Model Viewer) to an OBJ file. An OBJ file is a popular 3d model file format that can be imported into other graphics applications such as Blender, Autodesk 3ds Max, Autodesk Infraworks, and SketchFab. The OBJ file outputs complete with assigned textures.

The two main advantages of this command is it first gives the ability for users to output hi-res renders of their model and secondly allows users to share their 3d model with others.

Hi-Res Rendering

For hi-res rendering, we recommend the use of the free program named Blender. Using Blender, users can easily import their Model Viewer model, setup lighting and cameras and output realistic images and animations with shadow casting.

Sharing your 3d design with others using SketchFab

SketchFAB is a free to sign-up website that allows user to share their 3d models. When users run the OBJ Output command, a folder with the prefix _SketchFab is created. This folder contains all files required by SketchFAB to build a 3d model. When uploading your model to SketchFAB, you simply drag/drop all files from this folder.

Check out the video below, which explains this workflow.
